Where does my flight depart from?

Volcanic Air has 2 offices – our main base is at the Rotorua City Lakefront (1 Lakefront Drive, City Lakefront, Rotorua 3010) just minutes from the town centre and our hangar at the Rotorua Airport (837 Te Ngae Road, Ōwhata, Rotorua 3074).

ALL flights depart from our lakefront jetty UNLESS we have instructed you specifically to go to our hangar! Make sure you check into our office first!

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking early to secure your preferred flight time, especially during weekends, school holidays, and the summer season.

We also suggest booking early in your trip so that, in the event of unsuitable weather, we have opportunities to reschedule your flight.

What time of day is best to fly?

Sadly there is no hard and fast answer to this question as it totally depends on the weather each day. If the weather is not suitable, we will always try to reschedule your flight!

Mornings often provide the calmest weather and smoothest flying conditions, with beautiful soft light for photography. Afternoon flights can offer warmer temperatures and stunning late-day colours, especially in winter. Any time of day showcases Rotorua’s scenery beautifully — it simply depends on your preference.

What is the parking like around your office?

There is plenty of free parking around our office!

When you drive in from the Lake Road round-about; if you turn to the right into the parking lot there is a 3 hour limit, but if you turn to the left there is no time limit and plenty of space for larger vehicles.

Are there weight or size limits?

Yes, weight restrictions apply for safety. We ask all guests to provide individual weights at the time of booking. This helps us ensure safe and balanced seating in the aircraft.

Can children fly?

Yes! Children of all ages are welcome. Children under 2 years old are required to sit on a parent or guardian’s lap. Child rates apply for ages 2-11.
