Combine our most popular scenic flight over Mount Tarawera and Waimangu Volcanic Valley with 90 minutes of soaking at the secluded natural hot springs on Lake Rotoiti.

Experience takeoff from the waters of Lake Rotorua, flying around Mokoia Island before tracking over Sulfur Bay, Rotorua City and Whakarewarewa Forest and Thermal Reserve. Gain an appreciation for the colors of Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) and Lake Rotokākahi (Green Lake) before taking in the rest of the Rotorua lakes district. Next, fly over the world’s youngest geothermal park: Waimangu Volcanic Valley, with its steaming cliffs, vividly blue Inferno Crater, and Frying Pan Lake (the world’s largest hot spring).

Continue flying over lakes to Mount Tarawera, the site of the largest eruption in New Zealand’s living memory. The 1886 eruption left an 8 km crater rift, over which your pilot will fly you, providing phenomenal views into the massive craters.

Extend the flight off the northern flank of Mount Tarawera to Lake Rotoiti, where your pilot will land before taxiing to the pier. Only accessible by water, the hot pools are in a secluded bay on the shores of Lake Rotoiti. Seemingly disconnected from the world, spend 90 minutes hopping between each of the 7 pools. Take your time soaking, cool off in the lake, purchase a drink and a snack, rest on a lounger and repeat before your pilot gives you the 10 minute warning. Utilize the changing room before reboarding the waiting floatplane for a return flight to the Rotorua City Lakefront.

Recommended: Please note only small backpacks are permitted on board. Bathing suit and towel are essential. Guests are welcome to bring a camera.

Children: Under 2 free of charge. Children 2-11 years pay a child fare (75% of the adult fare)

Safety: A full safety briefing as well as safety equipment will be provided at the Volcanic Air Base. All passengers will be required to be weighted in order to ensure proper weight distribution in the aircraft.
