Tour Description

Your adventure begins at the Rotorua City Lakefront, where you’ll board one of our iconic floatplanes. As the aircraft lifts off the water, you’ll be treated to exhilarating aerial views of Rotorua’s geothermal landscape. Fly high over Lake Rotorua, with its sweeping bays and steaming Sulphur vents, and past Mokoia Island — a cultural landmark and wildlife sanctuary nestled at the heart of the lake.

Crossing the Ohau Channel, your flight continues eastward toward Lake Rotoiti, where a thrilling water landing awaits. Tucked into the sheltered bay of Manupirua and only accessible by water, the Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools are one of Rotorua’s best-kept secrets. This historic site is home to New Zealand’s oldest commercial hot springs and offers the perfect place to unplug and recharge.

Upon arrival, you’ll have 90 minutes to fully unwind in this secluded thermal paradise. With seven geothermally heated pools to choose from—each varying in temperature—you can soak at your own pace, taking in panoramic lake views and the sound of native birdsong. Take a refreshing dip in the cool lake waters, launch yourself from the jetty, or slide in from the pontoon—it’s all part of the classic Kiwi lake day.

For the ultimate indulgence, grab a drink or snack from the on-site café (they have a liquor license!) and enjoy it in one of the many picnic spots dotted along the lake’s edge.

Whether you’re after serenity, social time, or simply an escape from the everyday, the Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools deliver a uniquely New Zealand experience in a setting that feels worlds away.

Your pilot will give you the 10 minute warning, at which time you can head to the changing rooms before rejoining your pilot at the jetty.

The return flight offers another breathtaking perspective of the Rotorua Lakes District as you glide back across the water and rise once more into the sky for a smooth 6-minute flight back to our Lakefront base.

Throughout the journey, your pilot will provide expert commentary on the region’s unique volcanic geology, Māori history, and lake legends—connecting you more deeply to the land and its stories.
